Russian Journalists on Familiarisation trip in Gambia



In their bid to promote Destination Gambia in Russia and sell the country’s tourism products to other destination markets, a group of eight Russian journalists Monday evening arrived in the country for a familiarisation tour of Destination Gambia. Officials of the Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) received the group on arrival at the Banjul International Airport.

touristAbdoulie Hydara, Director General of GTBoard, expressed delight and thanked the team for choosing to come to the Smiling Coast of Africa, The Gambia.

He welcomed them to the Destination on behalf of The Gambian leader and also on behalf of the Minister of Tourism and Culture.

Reflecting on their Russia tour in 2015, Hydara stated: “We are very glad to have received you here. It has been in the making since we left Russia in November. Since then we have been working tirelessly with our team and representatives in Russia.”

He therefore thanked TMI for their efforts in ensuring that this familiarisation tour to The Gambia possible.

Adama Njie, Director of Marketing Gambia Tourism Board assured them of fantastic experience of the country.

He urged them to be good ambassadors of the Gambia in Russia after their familiarisation trip.

Adama informed that the eight journalists represent different media in Russia.

Lamin Manga, Russain Consular General to The Gambia, said this is the first time of receiving media personnel coming to The Gambia from Russia.

tourist-3He said the interesting thing about it is the composition of the team, which made of various specialists in different areas of journalism.

He thanked GTBoard for bringing them to the country.

The team will visit tourist attraction sites in the country including hotels and resorts among others in the Tourist Development Area.
