Sally Njie, a gardener and resident of Kuloro in Kombo East, last Thursday testified as the second prosecution witness in a theft trial against Foday Jarju before Magistrate Isatou Janneh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.
In her testimony, the witness said on 15th June 2016 the accused person came to her house and gave her two bags of Irish potatoes to sell. She said she took the Irish potatoes to Brikama to sell them the following morning.
According to her, the first prosecution witness, Amro Mateya, came to her and asked where she got the potatoes from and she told him that they were given to her by the accused person but Mateya took her to the Brikama police station.
At the station, she said the police officers asked for the accused person’s number from her and he was called to come to the police station.
The witness said the police officers asked her if the accused person has been giving her potatoes to sell but she confirmed to them that this incident was the first time. She said she also confirmed to the police that each of the bags was sold to her by the accused person for D500.
