In her continuous efforts in championing the course of Gambian children, especially women, the First Lady of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia, Her Excellency Madam, Zineb Yahya Jammeh has once again come to the aid of two young Gambian women.
The First Lady, through her Operation Save the Children Foundation, has committed to foot the educational bill of one Jonsaba Jaiteh, a child marriage victim and mother of two, amounting to D30,000 per annum. The First Lady has also sponsored the medical bills of one Sally Leigh who is currently battling with cancer and she is to undergo treatment in Dakar, Senegal. She went further to give Sally a refund of CFA 600,000 Sally spent on transportation to and from Dakar, incidents and other expenses incurred during her trip to Senegal for the diagnosis.
Imagine the positive impact this will have on the duo, especially Sally who has been orphaned by cancer having both succumbed to the debilitating ailment.
This is quite welcoming but not a surprise because the First Lady is a fervent supporter of Gambian children, especially the girls. Just recently this paper reported of a young boy returning home, after successfully having undergone a heart operation in a top hospital in Israel, courtesy of the First Lady. That came hot on the heels of a similar successful treatment accorded to six children, bringing the total amount to seven.
The First Lady’s intervention is felt in every sphere of our national development. The aforementioned are just a fraction of her intervention but are definitely worth mentioning because life changing opportunities accorded to these young women cannot be over emphasized.
Therefore, we say thank you very much the First Lady for complimenting the efforts of the Government of the Islamic Republic of The Gambia. To the beneficiaries of the First Lady and the First Family in general, we implore you to continue praying for their continuous well-being and long life.
