The people of Kombo South wake up to at devastating news on Friday after a fatal accident between Tanji and Brufut claimed 9 lives with three others sustaining serious injuries and are currently hospitalised.
The accident happened between the hours of 05:30 and 06:00 when a passenger van with registration number BJL 8579 J, carrying twelve passengers as well as the driver and apprentice collided with a truck with registration number BJL 9420 K.
Confirming the incident to the Daily Observer, Inspector Foday Conta the police public relations officer said the van was coming from Tanji heading towards Brufut while the truck was coming from the opposite end heading towards Tanji when they collided.
“Nine people died on the spot including the driver, apprentice and the remaining three sustained serious injuries and are currently hospitalised at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital,” he said.
PRO Conta disclosed that the truck driver, Basiru Jallow, age 26 and a native of Brufut is under police custody helping them in their investigations. “The office of the Inspector General of Police is hereby warning all drivers and road users to be extra careful,” he concluded.
