Two Convicted for conspiracy and false pretence

Senior Magistrate Pa Modou Njie of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court has convicted Algasim Jallow and bubacarr Jallow, two men who were facing charges of conspiracy to commit misdemeanor and obtaining money by false pretence.

Magistrate Njie sentenced the two to a four-month jail term each on each of the charges and also ordered each of the convicts to pay a fine of D1000, in default to serve one month imprisonment. The magistrate also ordered for all the sentences to run consecutively.

The presiding magistrate said he has heard the plea in mitigation of the convicts and had considered that they were first time offenders. He said the court has to take its cause because such acts are rampant in society.

He said the role of courts is to ensure that justice is sufficiently applied between accused persons and the complainants and to also ensure that judgment of the court serve as a deterrent to other would be offenders.

The convicts are said to have conspired and by false pretence and with intent to defraud, obtained a laptop valued D7500, a Samsung mobile phone valued D12,000 and cash amount of D5, 200 from one Mamjara Ceesay on 14th  December 2015 at Sinchu Baliya.
