The people of the West Coast Region have done it again yesterday. They turned out in their thousands to welcome the President of the Islamic Republic, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa and the entourage as they entered in the region.
West Coast Region, originally Western Division is one of the seven administrative regions of The Gambia, with its administrative headquarters in Brikama. It is the region that plays host to the home village of President Jammeh.
The party leader, founder and chairman of the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Re-orientation and Construction (APRC) began his 2016 nationwide tour, which commenced on the 14th of November, in the North Bank Region of the country, moving all the way to Basse in the Upper River Region, Lower River Region and then the West Coast Region.
President Jammeh has been out for the past one week crisscrossing the length and breadth of the country to avail himself the opportunity to listen and also talk to the people. This practice of engaging the populace directly is one of President Jammeh’s endearing practices.
Upon arrival in the West Coast Region, the President and entourage were received by the governor of the region, Aminata Siffai Hydara in Kalaji with the event characterised by pomp and fanfare. People left all what they were doing to join the procession from Brumen Bridge to the first meeting venue in the West Coast Region before proceeding to Kanilai on a long convoy of vehicles escorted by thousands of people of all age.
