Haja Natoma Jawara, the wife of Gambian billionaire businessman, Basiru Jawara, has refuted rumours that her husband has died.
She was speaking in an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer at her Bakau residence on Thursday after news of her husband’s purported death was reported on the online version of South African newspaper, the Telegraph, quoting a local radio station as its source.
The report added that Jawara, a native of Sabi village in the Upper River Region, died in South Africa shortly after he was secretly flown into the Rainbow nation for medical treatment on an unspecified illness.
The report, which stated Jawara had died on Tuesday, added that the cause of death was unknown at the time of the publication but said the body was already sent for an autopsy.
When this reporter asked Haja Natoma Jawara to confirm the widely spread rumour or otherwise, the shocked woman shouted the name of Allah (SWT) “Allah’hu Akabar! My husband is alive and healthy and currently in The Gambia; he just took his tea and left for his usual business.”
“For the past one month my husband didn’t travel out of The Gambia. I was the one who attended my grandchildren’s graduation in London,” she said, adding that since the unfounded news broke out, she has been receiving calls from everywhere across the globe, adding that many people visited her residence to enquire.
“As I speak my husband is alive and gone for business,” she concluded.
