A witness in a drug trial against Mariama Keita, Wednesday told a Kanifing Magistrates’ Court that they (narcotic officers) had acted upon the information they received on the alleged drug dealing of Nuha Ceesay which led to the arrest of his wife (accused).
Morro Jammeh, a narcotic officer made the disclosure while testifying as the fourth prosecution witness in the trial before Magistrate Blessed.
Charged with possession of prohibited drugs, Keita was pregnant during the first phase of the trial but in Wednesday’s hearing, she entered in court with a baby girl.
In his evidence, the witness told the court that he is attached at the Bakoteh narcotic office, saying on 26th June, this year; they received information that Nuha Ceesay of Brufut (Husband to the accused) was dealing in suspected cannabis.
The witness added visited the compound of the suspect, they found a lady there who was later known to be the wife of the suspect.
According to the witness, before introducing themselves as narcotic officers to the wife (accused), she took the plate on the table and threw it on the flow. He said the accused told them that the plate contained cannabis.
The witness said they later introduced themselves to the accused and conducted a search in the house which led to the discovery of two big boundless of suspected cannabis.
He said the accused was interrogated but she said she has no knowledge of the suspected cannabis. He added that the accused was later arrested and further interrogated at the Bakoteh narcotic office, where she maintained having no knowledge of the said suspected cannabis.
