Allah Helps Those Who Help Others

A Hadith recorded in Muslim on the authority of Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) states: ”Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter.”

Imagine someone who has spent more than fifty years of his live on the course of Islam and humanity in general. This is exactly the case with the President and has in return made him endeared to the hearts of Gambian and non-Gambians alike.

As stated by the President himself in his traditional Tobaski message to Gambians, his government has constantly and as a matter of policy and principle monitored the stock and price level of all commodities in the Gambian market to ensure their availability, accessibility and affordability. This concern, as the President added, has at times necessitated the government’s intervention to sway market forces to the favour of all Gambians.

In yet another show of generosity and magnanimity, and being consistent with his government’s policy, the President in the lead up to the Tobaski, through the Kanilai Farms, has offered rams for sale at unbelievably considerable low prices and meat for those who couldn’t afford the sacrificial ram, to enhance the fulfillment of our Eid obligation.

In another move, the Jammeh administration amongst other favourable measures waived all duties on livestock dealers at livestock sales grounds to ensure that Gambians get access to affordable livestock.  In addition, the ‘’GRA also exempted livestock dealers at livestock sales grounds from the regular local taxes and charges as incentives for the participation of more dealers to facilitate increases in the supply of livestock to exert downward pressure on prices.’’

As a result, for the first in the country, the demand on livestock exceeded the supply. This has shown that contrary to the lies spread over the internet by the enemies of this country, the economic situation of The Gambia is indeed very impressive.

It is also gratifying to note that The Gambia would soon graduate into an exporter of food items in line with the Vision 2016 National Objective. The President highlighted as much when he disclosed that the sheep fattening and small ruminant production programme of this vision have been progressing satisfactorily, thus eliminating the need to import animals of this nature.

It is, therefore, every Gambian’s duty to pray for the President’s continued well-being and that of the First Family.
