Mohamed Sillimeh, a two-year-boy sponsored by the First Lady Her Excellency Madam Zineb Yahya Jammeh through her Operation Save the Children Foundation (OSCF) has returned home after undergoing successful treatment for congenital heart disease at the Save A Child Hospital (SACH) in Israel.

Sillimeh’s successful treatment and subsequent home return came hot on the heels of five children who had earlier returned home after undergoing a similar treatment at the same hospital, also courtesy of the First Lady.

Mohamed Sillimeh was received at the Banjul International Airport by the Executive Director of the OSCF, Fatou Mass Jobe, Saffie Lowe-Ceesay, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and family members.

Speaking in a Daily Observer interview, Fatou Mass Jobe said she was quite happy having the child successfully treated thanks to the First Lady’s intervention.

Sillmeh, according to her, is among the seven children sponsored by Madam Jammeh at a total cost of D2.4M in Israel. The sponsorship, she said, included cost of treatment, travel for patients and escorts, lodging, feeding and cost of travel for escorting nurses.

“Her Excellency the First Lady and Chairperson of Operation Save the Children Foundation (OSCF) founded and launched OSCF with the strategic objective of completing the efforts of His Excellency’s Government in creating a conducive environment that addresses the needs and aspirations of children of The Gambia,’’ she affirmed.

‘’OSCF in achieving its strategic objective is focusing on three programme areas; namely, Child Protection, Health Series-Prevention and Care, and Education, with emphasis on children with special needs.”

According to her, the First Lady’s Foundation will partner with the SACH in different areas such as training.

Lamin Sillimeh, father to the child thanked the First Lady for sponsoring the treatment of his son, while praying for Madam Zineb Yahya Jammeh’s personal wellbeing and that of her family.
