Magistrate Isatou Janneh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court yesterday sentenced one EL Malick Samb to pay a fine of D2, 500 in default to serve seven months in jail after the court found him guilty of being in possession of a forged Danish residence permit.
Mr Samb is said to have presented the forged residence permit, with number: DK o863842 at the Banjul International Airport profiling desk with intent to travel to Spain with Vueling flight on or about 23rdJuly 2016. The act contravenes Section 31  of the Immigration Act Cap 16 Volume 2 of the laws of The Gambia.
The Police Prosecutor, Couple 3999 Secka said on 23rd July, 2016 at the Banjul International Airport, Mr Samb presented his documents to the profiling desk where it was suspected that his residence permit was a forged one.
He said when the tax officer conducted further investigation; he came across Mr Samb’s passport number: A01697565, which led to his arrest. He said after all facts were gathered; Mr Samb was cautioned and charged.
He had pleaded for the court to exercise mercy on him, saying he is a first time offender. He said he is the only son of his mother; saying sending him to jail would traumatize his mother.
