A man who was charged by prosecutors after he escaped from a lawful custody at the Sukuta Nema Suu police post in January, has been ordered to pay a fine of D1, 000 by Magistrate Momodou S M Jallow at the Bundung Magistrates’ Court.
Magistrate Jallow equally ruled that Musa Touray would serve a nine-month imprisonment term if he fails to pay the fine.
Touray is said to have escaped from the Sukuta-Nema Suu police post while under their custody on suspicion of car theft in January 30th, 2016.
He had pleaded for the court to exercise mercy on him, saying he has a baby that he is taking care of and his mother is equally relying on him alone for survival. He appealed to the court not to impose a custodial sentence on him.
Magistrate Jallow said the court had taken into consideration that Touray is a first time offender and so he would not impose a custodial sentence on him but warned him that he would not temper justice with mercy on him should he be brought before him again for any crime.
