Fabou FC on Saturday clinched the Super Cup title after defeating regular competitors Sky Power FC in Brikama. Alhagie MS Jallow’s lone goal was enough to avail the Gida-based club another accolade following their league triumph.
This was a rainy Super Cup final day but the Brikama Mini-Stadium was at its crowd-pulling best as fans packed the ground, most holding umbrellas to watch an anticipated entertaining curtain raiser.
The first half show was a bit lackluster as both sides were only cohesive at the back meticulously studying each other’s attack.
In the second part of the game, the league champions Fabou added tenacity upfront by introducing last year’s hero Muhammed Conteh to add flavour in their attack in the other side of the field. Former U-17 and Bakau United attacker Jatta Baldeh had a golden chance to score for Sky Power, but his one-on-one effort went wide.
The best moment of the game came when Fabou’s captain Alhagie MS Jallow curled in a left footed effort at the back of Sky Powers’ net following a collision in the under-pressure Sky Power defence in the 72nd minute.
In a post-match interview, the head coach of Fabou, Sulayman Sanyang, expressed delight for the victory and promised they will defend their title.
Sky Power’s Coach Lamin Sanneh on the other hand conceded defeat and promised to prepare well for the Nawettan.
Fabou went home with a trophy and a cash prize of D10,000 while Sky Power pocketed home D8,000 as runners up.
The goal scorer, who was also voted as man of the match, went home with D1000 and a jersey. D600 was given to him by the CEO of Brikama Area Council Mam Sait Jallow; GRTS and Observer boss Momomdou Sabally gave him D400 for scoring the only goal of the game. The jersey was given to him by the Executive Director, National Sports Council, Marcel Mendy.
