In an attempt to diversify and improve their programmes for the benefit of the audience, The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS), last week launched a new programme dubbed ‘Sunu Nawettan’ on TV. This is part of the campaign the state broadcaster’s management calls the drive to make GRTS TV, “The People’s TV”.
The programme is sponsored by Qcell Company and runs on “The People’s TV” weekdays at 10:30pm (excluding Thursday and Friday) and weekends at 1pm.
Speaking on last week’s edition, Teneng Jitteh, the presenter of the show, said “Sunu Nawettan” is meant to showcase the talents of Gambians across the country in the form of football.
“The only thing you need is to send an update of scores of your village or town Nawettan to 3344666 or upload a video and send it to the same number and we will edit and air it on TV,’’ she said on the show.
The programme is already becoming the topic of discussion among many young players and football lovers who are constantly sending text messages to the programme expressing their appreciation to the new show.
Pa Modou Faal, President of the Lamin Sports Committee, told Observer Light that the programme would offer the platform for unknown stars to showcase their talents and help coaches in scouting new talents for their teams.
Fatoumatta Loum, a sports reporter at Capital FM said: “This is a very interested programme; I really love it and I do watch it.”
