Mentor a Child Foundation, a youth-led organisation based in Brikama, recently convened a training workshop for youth activists on the theme “The importance of mentoring in education”.
The forum, which was held at the Brikama Red Cross Link, brought together youth activists and teachers from various schools and organistions. It is hope that the initiative will have a positive impact on the participants.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lamin Dibba, the Deputy Director of MCF, said the initiative is designed to create a platform for young people to make decisions based on their career paths. According to him, one of the reasons of organising the forum was to avail participants the opportunity to learn new things.
“It’s an important session that is organised to train trainers. It is also expected to motivate participants to establish MCF in their various schools,” he stated.
The initiative, he went on, will also enable children, especially students to go through proper mentorship, which he believes, is an important aspect of life and education.
Dibba described the theme of the forum as relevant and apt for the fact that education is among the key features of mentorship.
Kaddy Samateh, Marketing and Communications Director of MCF, said the initiative came at the right time, noting that participants are expected to share and manifest what they have acquired from the training in order to benefit others that were unfortunate to attend.
Ensa Camara, a member of Creative Minds Organistion, said this is a learning session brought to develop both the trainers and the trainees. “It will help us to learn new things and share innovative ideas regarding the topic,” he stated.
Other speakers included, Amadou Jallow, Secretary General of MCF and Fatou Drammeh, one of the trainees, who commended MCF for coming up with such an educative session.
