The Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Jammeh, Babili Mansa, yesterday donated 10 brand new Mitsubishi Pick-ups and 4 brand new Pajero vehicles to The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), at a presentation presided over by the Vice President and Women’s Affairs minister, Her Excellency Dr Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy, at State House.
Handing over the keys to the vehicles to the GAF Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Lt. General Ousman Bargie, Vice President Njie-Saidy, who doubles as the chairperson of National Security Council thanked all the security units in and outside the country for listening to President Jammeh`s words as their commander-in-chief from 1994 to date.
VP Njie-Saidy however expressed the need for routine maintenances to be conducted on the vehicles for them to serve long, urging the drivers to always maintain discipline in their profession.
She commended the country`s service chiefs for being there for The Gambian leader, describing President Jammeh as a shining example to Gambia`s security forces.
The Vice President further reminded the beneficiary that the resources that President Jammeh used to purchase the donated vehicles is huge and that they must ensure applying responsibility in handling them.
The Minister of Interior, Momodou Alieu Bah said the country`s security will never be compromise at any level, saying the peace and progress of the country is the entire interest of the security forces.
Interior Minister Bah also called for proper maintenance of the donated vehicles for them to serve their purpose.
Lieutenant General Ousman Bargie, chief of defence staff of GAF described the donation as a magnificent gift from President Jammeh, saying this is not the first time The Gambian leader is offering help to GAF. “President Jammeh is known for his generosity to GAF and other security apparatus in the country since 1994 and today is one of those kind,” CDS Bargie said.
Bargie urged his fellow security forces in the country to maintain peace at all times, noting that maintaining the security of this country does not mean they are doing it for President Jammeh instead it is done for the interest of the entire Gambian peaople.
He said all the security agencies in the country will alsways be committed to maintain the peace in the country, adding that they will always be with The Gambian leader as far as the security of this country is concern. “We are 24/7 ready to defend the integrity of this country at all time and I assure President Jammeh that these vehicles will be properly taken care of.”
