Sedition Case Fails to Proceed

The sedition case involving Ebrima Keita, Musa Fofana and Alasana Jallow failed to proceed before Magistrate Momodou Jallow of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court last Thursday due to the absence of the defence.

When the case was called the police prosecution announced its readiness to proceed with the voir dire but the court clerk said the accused persons’ defence counsel Abdoulie Fatty had written to the court that he had another matter at the High Court in Banjul so he would not make it to the court. He told the court that the counsel had requested an adjournment.

The police prosecutor ASP Keita said because that was the defence’s first excuse, the prosecution would accommodate his request. He said since the case started both sides have been working hard to see to the progress of the case.

The accused persons are standing trial on alleged criminal offences of sedition and incitement of violence which they all denied.

The matter is adjourned to 19th July 2016 for continuation.
