Tostan International The Gambia, a Non-Governmental Organisation working in the country has recently organised a farewell ceremony for its outgoing National Coordinator, Ansu Kambaye, who is due for retirement.
The ceremony, held at Basse Koba Kunda, was attended by many including the Human Resources Director of Tostan International, Tostan National Coordinator from Senegal, the Governor of the Upper River Region, Omar Sompo Ceesay, Tostan Gambia staff, and technical advisory members in URR, among others.
Speaking at the farewell ceremony, Governor Ceesay commended the outgoing Tostan Gambia National Coordinator for his tireless effort in supporting the development aspirations of the Government of The Gambia.
He described Kambaye as a hardworking leader.
Underscoring the positive impact of Tostan’s projects on the people of his region, the URR Governor stated that since the coming of the NGO in the region, it has contributed to the improvement of the livelihoods of the people of the region and in supporting Government’s development agenda.
“On behalf of the people of URR particularly the women, who are the custodians of the project, I wish to thank the outgoing National Coordinator for his leadership style and for the good work he had been doing in the region”.
He went on: “We will continue to work with him and seek his advice at any given point, because we know that the development of the country particularly URR remains his priority”.
The Human Resources Director of Tostan International, Hassan Seck, deputising for the Executive Director of Tostan International assured Mr Kambaye of Tostan International’s gratitude, saying he has laid a good foundation “which the beneficiary communities are enjoying”.
The Tostan Coordinator of Ziguinchor in Senegal, Bakary Tamba, said the outgoing National Coordinator started working with Tostan in the year of 2000, as a facilitator and due to his commitment and dedication he rose through the ranks to the position of a national coordinator.
“Since we started working together, I have never assigned him to do something and he refused”, he attested.
He called on Tostan International to help the Gambia chapter with more projects.
Ansu Kambaye, the outgoing National Coordinator, thanked Tostan Gambia staff and their beneficiary communities in URR for their immense support to him and for ensuring that he accomplished his mission. “I want to assure you that my mind is on you, and that I will do anything I can to support you because Gambia is my second home”, he added.
The Vice Chairman of Basse Area Council, Hassan Jawo; Lady Councilor for Basse, Neneh Darboe; Momodou MS Camara on behalf of the Regional Education Director, all praised the outgoing Tostan National Coordinator for his contribution to the development of the region and the country.
