Volunteers Descend on Cabinet’s Jalambang Farm

Hundreds of volunteers on Saturday descended on the cabinet farm in Jalambang in the West Coast Region to weed the four-hectare maize farm.

Speaking at the site, the minister of Finance Hon Abdou Colley spoke at length on the importance President Jammeh attaches to agriculture reiterating that the overall idea of the Vision 2016 is to end decade’s long importation of food into the country, thereby making the nation food self-sufficient.

According to him, the Gambian leader is of the strong view that embracing agriculture will not only seal the country’s food insecurity gap, but will enable Gambians to live in an independent dignified manner.

The farm manager, Adama Nyassi who doubles as the VDC chairman urged the volunteers to continue to unite, adding that with unity, no one can penetrate them.

He said the volunteers have shown real patriotism and love not only to cabinet ministers, but President Jammeh.

The councilor Nyambai Ward, Pa Ousman Manneh said the move is in line with President Jammeh’s Vision 2016 food security drive and thanked the volunteers for their move.

The Chief Executive Officer of Brikama Area Council, Mam Sait Jallow hailed the efforts of the Gambians in supporting President Jammeh in the attainment of Vision 2016 food self-sufficiency.

He called on Gambians to take agricultural activity seriously as it is the only way forward in the attainment of food security in the country.

The Alkalo of Jalambang, Lamin ‘Mondo’ Jatta hailed the efforts of the Gambians while assuring of their readiness to participate fully in the attainment of Vision 2016 food self- sufficiency drive.

Jatta used the forum to assured the President of his community’s undivided loyalty,promising to return an unprecedented number of votes for the new constituency in the 2016 and 2017 presidential and parliamentary elections respectively.
