Volunteers Weed President’s Taifa Rice Field

Volunteers from Taifa on Wednesday August 24, help weed President Jammeh’s Nareca rice field at Taifa in the Lower Fulladu West District, Central River Region South.

In total, four communities participated in the exercise which saw some of the volunteers embarked on a rice transplanting exercise at the Vision 2016 rice farm in Jahally Pacharr. The other three communities were Wellingara, Saruja and Wally Kunda, all from the same district.

Addressing the volunteers, the Farm Manager Major Seedy Baldeh commended them for their hard work and the love they have shown to the Gambian leader, saying they have demonstrated their support to the attainment of Vision 2016 food security initiative. He further spoke extensively on the importance of farming.

Major Baldeh described President Jammeh as a passionate farmer who is strongly advocating for the country’s independence in the area of food security. He called on Gambians to take agricultural activities seriously as it is the only way forward in the attainment of food security.

The Regional Governor, Alhaji Omar Khan hailed the efforts of the volunteers for supporting President Jammeh in the attainment of Vision 2016 food self sufficiency. He posited that the vision is very important in the attainment of food security, pointing out that there can be no sustainable development without the attainment of food self sufficiency.

For their part, the Alkalo of Taifa Ebrima Sillah, women leader Jonfolo Dansira, Mama Sillah and Youth Leader Muhammad Bintou Dukureh, all assured their readiness in supporting President Jammeh in the attainment of food self sufficiency. They seized the opportunity and commended Major Seedy Baldeh for supporting them in their work at the farms.
